It's hard to break the habit...
but yeesh, after operating in near total secrecy for 4 1/2 months, it feels really weird to talk about band stuff publicly again.
I literally have to fight instinct.

We practiced, all 5 of us for the first time in 3 weeks tonight. (Long story)
That felt good, although we were rusty as all get out at first... it took us two takes before Steroid Unicorn had the power that it should have.

Overall Mount Vicious practice was great tonight, we have two new songs... actually we have 4 of them, but 2 of them are on the verge of "not new" but not quite in the mix fully yet.
that's 6 basically down or 9, in some fashion being almost done... depending on your count.

Bold = done
Italics = almost done
Nothing = in some early stage

  1. Steroid Unicorn

  2. Wherewolf?

  3. Da Proposition

  4. What's My Emotivation? (Recorded but not yet heard!)

  5. Skin Flautist (almost done)

  6. Make Room For Daddy (almost done)

  7. Brian James Gang Macrame (moody! this one is very different and may surprise people!)

  8. Jewbacabra

  9. Hypocriticizers And Douchebaguettes

(this one has my favorite chorus to a MV song yet!)

(there are a couple other ideas kicking around too)
If I had to place a bet, we will have 10 songs by the time of the first show, and 12 by the time of the tour in November, but some are a little easier then others.
Any which way you slice it, it'll be a solid punchy, awesome filled set... ALL KILLER, NO FILLER!
People might even forgive us for booking a show for this band before we even had a name or were public, and before Guitar Vs. Gravity and Ghost to Atom were scheduled to play the House of Sheilds.

(sorry Ben! Sorry Stephen! Sorry Paulie! that was not intentional at all.)

Anyway, two semi new songs, they couldn't be more different either, the first one: Skin Flautist is busy as all get out and truly lives up to it's name, but has some really epic super rokken parts as well. It reminds me of a melange of Polvo/Sister era Sonic Youth and Queens of the Stone Age, with a bit of Wipers/Thin Lizzy thrown in for good measure Make Room For Daddy is at once insanely complex and really straightforward... it's kind of awesome.
The vocals are preposterous and awesome at the same time. I'm not even close to being able to describe that one yet, the end reminds me of Cheap Trick somehow though, but if Danzig was fronting Cheap Trick...
It's really better then I'm explaining it.

Both are nearly there, i'm envisioning Skin Flautist as a set closer at this point.

There's a very amusing practice version where we just keep playing the end Butthole Surfers style for a long, long, long time. It doesn't get boring surprisingly though.

As a lark we did Wherewolf? with an opening vamp... I kind of came in Dean Martin style, and told people to tip their bartenders and the lke... the hilarious thing is how much it actually worked.
Like, legitly worked... that made it all the more funny.

I got a new amp, a Musicman that is about half the power of the old Fender Quad and about 1/5th the weight. It's kind of awesome [info]babystrange is playing through my Quad at practice which is totally awesome and also means she doesn't have to cart her stuff back and forth all the time... which makes practice a lot easier.

It's been weird getting used to not being the primary guitarist in this band, even if I write the primary guitar part, but i've been getting into it... there's a lot going on and it feels great to be able to just sit back and let this insanely talented group of people take up the slack and run with it sometimes... it takes it places, I wouldn't even think of going, and also all of the places that I had Machivallian style machinations to take it as well.

Anyway, that's your first Mount Vicious update kids, hope you dig it.

-C.

(PS: Stephen, I bought a whole spindle of cd-rs to replace the ones we've been using, but i've forgotten them a solid 3 weeks in a row now)

Hypocriticizers & DOUCHEBAGUETTES?! I'm so..wow...that makes me really, really happy! I hope that term will now be used by people other than me and Lisa and you!

Also, I am still really excited about Jewpacabra!

I debated about waiting until it was ready to reveal that one, but it's already been played on last.fm a few times by me, and Mount Vicious doesn't have that many songs, so there you go.

It's gonna be a winner.

Hmmm, I guess it would be Jewpacabra wouldn't it?

I'm excited to hear it, I really, really am.

I guess it would be spelled with a "p," I didn't even notice you spelled it differently!

Cheap Trick somehow though, but if Danzig was fronting Cheap Trick...

I believe the correct term for this is "Rapture" or "Armageddon".
